Martin Shortt covers the North East and Midlands of Ireland including counties Cavan, Meath and Westmeath. He is a native of the Oldcastle/Virginia area which is both nationally and internationally renowned for its fishing and famous lakes. These lakes include Lough Ramor and Lough Sheelin, well know among the fishing community for their angling facilities.
Oldcastle, a town steeped in history, is the birthplace of Saint Oliver Plunkett. Close by, the famous megalithic tombs are among some of the great attractions in the beautiful countryside. Virginia, beloved of fishermen and golfers, is surrounded by the tranquil waters of Lough Ramor and the deeply wooded shores of the lake provides for an utterly peaceful landscape.
The North East and Midlands areas are today in the process of discovering their own history and traditions. Most of this area is within commuting distance of Dublin and has lots of leisure activities to offer - sailing, swimming, fishing, golf, pitch and putt, hunting, riding clubs, forest and scenic walks, motor rallying, hill climbing and heritage walks. Driving distance to Dublin is approximately one hour. The region has and continues to provide a tranquil peace to all who visit and live in the area. |
